1. Introduction

Welcome to Yarnie ("we," "us," or "our"). Yarnie is a crochet and knitting pattern tutorial application developed by Yarnie, a brand of People Park. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application ("Yarnie" or the "App").

By using Yarnie, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with our policies, please do not use the App.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Identity Data

  • Apple Sign-In Information: When you sign in with Apple, we receive your Apple User ID, email address (if provided), and display name (first name only, limited to 12 characters). Apple may provide a private relay email address instead of your actual email.
  • Guest Accounts: If you use Yarnie as a guest, we create an anonymous Firebase Authentication account. No personal information is collected for guest accounts.
  • Date of Birth: Collected during onboarding for age verification purposes. You must be at least 16 years old to use Yarnie.
  • Username and Bio: If you create a social profile, you may provide a username and bio text.

2.2 Content Data

  • Profile Images: If you upload a profile photo, it is stored in our cloud storage.
  • Posts: Photos and captions you share on the social feed, including associated images.
  • Comments: Text comments you leave on other users' posts.
  • Direct Messages: Text messages and shared post references exchanged with other users.

2.3 Usage Data

  • Pattern Progress: Which patterns you have completed, your current pattern and step position.
  • Favorite Categories: Categories you frequently browse.
  • Total Patterns Viewed: Aggregate count of patterns you have viewed.
  • Social Interactions: Likes, saves, shares, and view counts on posts; follow and follower relationships.

2.4 Technical Data

  • Device Information: Device model (e.g., "iPhone 16 Pro"), operating system version, and app version.
  • Push Notification Token: Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) token for delivering push notifications.
  • Timezone and Country: Derived from your device locale settings for notification scheduling and content localization.
  • Language Preference: Your selected language within the App (one of 38 supported languages).

2.5 Subscription Data

  • Premium Status: Whether you have an active subscription.
  • Product Identifier: Which subscription plan you are on (weekly, monthly, or annual).
  • Expiration Date: When your current subscription period ends.

Note: All subscription billing and payment information is handled exclusively by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect, store, or have access to your payment card details, Apple Pay information, or billing address.

2.6 AI Assistant Data

Yarnie includes an AI assistant powered by Apple Intelligence Foundation Models. This AI runs entirely on your device and:

  • Does NOT transmit conversation data to our servers or any third-party cloud service.
  • Does NOT store your AI chat history after the session ends.
  • Processes all queries locally on your device using Apple's on-device language model.

2.7 Analytics Data

We collect anonymous usage analytics through Firebase Analytics, including:

  • Pattern views, guide starts, step completions, and pattern completions.
  • Category selections and technique views.
  • AI chat session starts (no content).
  • Notification interactions.
  • Subscription actions.

These analytics events do not contain personally identifiable information.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and maintain the App: Deliver pattern tutorials, enable social features, process subscriptions.
  • Personalize your experience: Remember your progress, show relevant content, deliver notifications in your language.
  • Enable social features: Allow you to share projects, follow other users, exchange messages, and interact with community posts.
  • Send push notifications: Notify you about new messages, social interactions, and relevant updates.
  • Improve our service: Analyze anonymous usage patterns to enhance app performance and content quality.
  • Ensure safety and compliance: Moderate user-generated content, process abuse reports, enforce our Terms of Service.
  • Marketing and advertising: Use anonymized and aggregated data to promote the App through third-party advertising platforms, including Meta (Facebook/Instagram) purchase campaigns. This may include sharing app event data (such as app installs and in-app purchase events) with Meta for ad measurement, optimization, and audience targeting. No personally identifiable content (such as your posts, messages, or profile details) is used in advertisements.

4. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we process your personal data based on:

  • Consent: You provide explicit consent during onboarding by accepting this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service. You may withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account.
  • Contractual Necessity: Processing necessary to deliver the services you requested (pattern access, social features, subscriptions).
  • Legitimate Interest: Anonymous analytics to improve the App, security measures to prevent abuse.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

5.1 Firebase (Google)

  • Firebase Authentication: User account management and sign-in.
  • Cloud Firestore: Database for storing user profiles, patterns, posts, messages, and other app data.
  • Firebase Storage: Cloud storage for images (profile photos, post images, pattern images).
  • Firebase Analytics: Anonymous usage analytics and event tracking.
  • Firebase Crashlytics: Crash reporting for app stability improvement.
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging: Push notification delivery.

5.2 Apple

  • Sign in with Apple: Authentication service for account creation and login.
  • StoreKit 2: In-app subscription management and billing (handled entirely by Apple).

5.3 Meta (Facebook/Instagram)

We use Meta Ads SDK to run advertising campaigns that promote Yarnie on Facebook and Instagram. In connection with these campaigns:

  • App Event Data: We may share app event data with Meta, including app installs, in-app purchase events (e.g., subscription starts), and aggregated usage metrics. This data is used to measure ad performance, optimize campaign delivery, and build targeted audiences.
  • Device Identifiers: With your consent (through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt), the Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) may be shared with Meta for ad attribution purposes.
  • No Content Sharing: We do NOT share your posts, messages, profile photos, or any user-generated content with Meta. Only anonymized event data and device-level identifiers are used.
  • Data Controls: You can limit ad tracking at any time through your device settings (Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking). You can also manage your Meta ad preferences at https://www.facebook.com/adpreferences.

6. Data Retention

  • Active accounts: We retain your data for as long as your account remains active.
  • Deleted accounts: Upon account deletion, your profile data and authentication are removed immediately. Associated content (posts, images, messages) is removed within 30 days.
  • Analytics data: Anonymized analytics data may be retained indefinitely as it contains no personally identifiable information.
  • Legal obligations: We may retain certain data longer if required by applicable law.

7. Your Rights (GDPR)

If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you have the following rights:

  • Right of Access: Request a copy of your personal data.
  • Right to Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Right to Erasure: Request deletion of your personal data (see Data Deletion Policy).
  • Right to Data Portability: Request your data in a portable format.

9. Children's Privacy

Yarnie is not intended for users under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. During onboarding, we require date of birth verification and prevent users under 16 from creating an account.

If we discover that we have inadvertently collected data from a user under 16, we will promptly delete such data. If you believe a child under 16 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at info@peoplepark.app.

10. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed on servers located outside your country of residence, including the United States (where Firebase/Google servers are located). We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, including Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission, to protect your data during international transfers.

11. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data, including:

  • Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS).
  • Firebase Security Rules that restrict unauthorized data access.
  • Read-only access for pattern content (users cannot modify pattern data).
  • Authentication-gated access to personal data.
  • Regular security reviews.

However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes:

  • We will update the "Last Updated" date at the top.
  • We will notify you through the App by requiring re-acceptance of the updated policy.

Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
